What's New?

February 4th 2002

It has been about a year since I stopped maintaining this website since I quit gaming alltogether, but this site has still been up and running here, more as a pointer to what has been going on with me and the site. And to me at least, a year is more than ample warning to you visitors to move on, visit some other and *better* sites for your AD&D needs, and I suggest that you all do so. There are many good sites out there, www.planetadnd.com to mention a terrific one, which happens to have copies of most of the works posted here. There are others, too, that are very good, but I've been away from the scene for too long to mention them here.

So, all in all, it has been great fun those four years my stint in the AD&D world lasted, but all things have to come to an end, and this is definitely the end for me. And to quote a certain Bilbo Baggins,

I regret to announce that (...) this is the END. I am going. I am leaving NOW. GOOD-BYE!> ;-)

January 2nd 2001

Well, all good things must come to an end sometime, I guess. After contemplating my own situation for some time now, I have decided to close down this website after realizing I am not able to provide you all with the services one might expect from a site like this. This website has come a long way after its initial conception in October 1996, more than four years ago, far longer than I would even dare to imagine even in my wildest dreams. I have had a lot of fun doing this, providing the gaming community with hundreds of excellent works written by talented people all over the world. I have gained a loyal following from the thousands of gamers who have been visiting this site regularly over the years. I have received literally thousands of emails giving feedback, support, suggestions, and above all, loads of submissions to this site. And I am very grateful to all of you, the gamers worldwide, for providing me with the opportunity to do this for all of you. I do regret that I am not able to continue maintaining this site anymore, but all is not lost. Far from it.

On the 31st of December 2000, I became a Staff Member of PlanetADND (www.planetadnd.com). PlanetADND is a huge website dedicated to the xD&D games, run by a few highly dedicated, resourceful, and skilled people, working full-time on the site. It is an excellent site, stuffed not only with the works that one might find at sites as this one, but also with a host of other features and services that I would never have been able to include here. The contents of this site, all the works, netbooks, and my own reviews, will within a matter of weeks be transferred to PlanetADND in their entirety, and this site will eventually go down by the end of 2001, or sooner.

As a Staff Member of PlanetADND, I will continue to do my work for the gaming community in the future as well, without the added burden of maintaining a website of my own. It is an arrangement over which I have pondered for some time now, and found was the only solution that I could accept. That is, still being able to contribute my share to the game and its community, while making sure that all the works will always be freely accessible to anyone.

I would like to give my most heartfelt thanks to Ezra Van Everbroeck for hosting my site at his Great NetBook Archive for the last few years, thereby helping me to reach a much wider audience through the several mirrors of his site. My greatest of thanks also go out to the webmasters of all the mirrors of that site, for their willingness to host my site along with Ezra's. You know who you are.

Also, I would like to thank those of you who have entrusted me with making my site the official distribution point for your works, most importantly Roger D. Mast with his Magnificent Monstrous Database (MMDB).

And last but not least, all of you, the gamers out there, who over the years have provided me with invaluable feedback, hints, tips, submissions, and interesting discussions in order to enable me to give you a better service. Thank you all, it has been really, really fun doing this! And I'm sure we'll meet again at www.planetadnd.com.

File Format Notes ZIP: The ZIP format is a special file format designed to collect and compress several files into one file for easy transfer. While a ZIP archive may contain many files, you can't view any of them until you decompress the ZIP archive. ZIP decompressors widely available and can be found at every software archive on the net.
Recommendation: WinZip.

All the files made available here are compressed using WinZip, and both the ZIP files themselves and the files contained within have long filenames. Therefore, take care using these ZIP files on non-LFN (= Long File Name) compatible operating systems (such as MS Windows v3.x).

ASCII files are just regular text files, readable on any computer.
Recommendation: TextPad.

HTML: If you're reading this, you're reading it through a web browser, and you can already view HTML files.
Recommendation: Opera.

PDF files are a compiled format developed by Adobe, and is related to PostScript in some way. PDF files are quickly becoming the most popular file format for web publishing, since it is both versatile and supported on all major platforms and operating systems.
Recommendation: Adobe Acrobat Reader.

PostScript: Also a publication format of sorts, quite old and well known.
Recommendation: GSview.

Word is the file format native to Microsoft Word, a word processing application. If you don't have MS Word, you can download a free Word Viewer from somewhere on Microsoft's website. Recommendation: MS Word Viewer.

Please Note: The program recommendations mentioned above are for 32-bit Microsoft Windows operating systems. You'll have to locate the appropriate applications yourself if you're using other operating systems, such as Macintosh, Linux, UNIX, OS/2, BeOS, etc. However, great care has been taken to ensure that (most of) the formats here are widely available to whatever platform you might be on, and since all of these formats are well known, you really shouldn't have any problems locating the software you need. Please let me know if some of the file formats here present any problems, but make sure you give me an abundance of information on your system configuration if you contact me about this.
